Congregational Life Our 400-member congregation is not only committed to Praising God, Teaching Faith, and Helping Others, we also enjoy a wide range of social events that not only strengthen our congregation, but are great fun as well.
The list is nearly endless, and varies from year to year, but recent events include:
Dressing the Church for Advent Each year, on the Saturday following Thanksgiving week-end, we hold an all-church decorating/pot luck lunch party. There are activities for all ages of children to make decorations while the adults dress the sanctuary, office, and other rooms.
Great Chili Cook-Off One of the most popular events each year is the Chili Cook-Off, usually held in early winter. Attendees bring pots of their favorite chili, the church provides side dishes and drinks, and fabulous prizes are awarded for the chili's voted hottest, tastiest, most "interesting", etc.
Women's Circles Five circles meet regularly, each focusing on different activities and interests, and at times suited to the lifestyles of their members.
Men's Breakfast An informal Saturday Men's Breakfast group meets monthly to discuss whatever is on their minds that particular day.
Trash and Treasure Sale Perhaps the biggest event of the church social year, as well as the major Presbyterian Women money-raising project, is the annual Trash and Treasure Sale. Held the first Saturday in October, members of the church work the entire week beforehand readying the vast quantity of donated goods for the sale, as well as staffing the sale table on Saturday.
All Church Picnic Each June, on the Sunday following the close of Vacation Bible School, we hold a picnic for all members of the church, as well as families of children who have attended VBS. Hot dogs and burgers for over 200 are grilled outside Fellowship Hall, there are games and prizes for children, and everyone has a grand time.
Family Room Worship Service On the Sunday following Christmas, we have a tradition of combining worship service with a pot-luck lunch in Fellowship Hall. A member of the congregation frequently offers the sermon in the form of an original Christmas story.
Youth Fellowship Dinners As a combination money-raising and social activity, the Youth Fellowship group prepares and serves pancake, spaghetti, fish fry, etc., dinners several times a year.Outings to Ball Games, the Theater, Fishing, etc. -
On an as-scheduled basis... there is a regular series of church-sponsored outings to various events and activities. This is only a partial list of the many activities that help keep our church a true community of faith.
